Enmity Between Seed; Bruises Between Enemies

Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Identifying “The Woman” in Genesis 3:15

From the book of Proverbs, there are verses of scripture that speaks of wisdom in the feminine using she and her, as a metaphoric woman to describe the Spirit of Wisdom. Something of significance is that the Spirit of Wisdom is said to be a “tree of life”, a source of words that yield eternal fruit.

Proverbs 3:13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

14 For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.

15 She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.

16 Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.

17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.

The Enmity Between Enemies

The enmity spoken of in Genesis 3:15 is between two spiritual opponents and their seed or spiritual offspring. The identity of one is obviously Satan who God was addressing. The identity of the woman should not be mistaken to be a human but a metaphor referring to the Holy Ghost. An example of the metaphoric use of woman is presented in (Proverbs 3) above. Christ made it a point to reveal a new phase of God’s operation involving the Holy Ghost.

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

According to scripture, the Holy Ghost overshadowed Virgin Mary to bring forth Christ the promise seed, the man-child. After Christ fulfilled His mission, teaching the way of salvation and dying to pay the price for our sin, He ascended into heaven to make way for the Holy Ghost, the comforter and teacher. The Holy Ghost is also the Spirit of Wisdom spoken of in (Proverbs 3) as a metaphoric woman. In the current phase of God’s operation in the world, The Holy Ghost has the power to transform or regenerate souls of believers via spiritual baptism. This is how the seed of Abraham or children of God are currently manifested.

1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Those who are born again of the spirit are the seed of the woman mentioned in Genesis 3:15. The necessity of being born again is what Christ tried to explain to a confused ruler among the Jews.

3:1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

Proverbs 3:18 reveal that there are benefits that come with retaining spritual wisdom which is the Word of God.

Proverbs 3:18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.

Retaining the Word of God can only be accomplished by the determination of will power because Satan will try to remove the Word of God from our hearts. In the following parable of the sower, Christ reveals the failures and success of mankind when confronted with His Word, the metaphoric seed that can yield eternal life.

Matthews 13:18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.

19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;

21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.

22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.

23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

Religious hypocrisy is pervasive and highly addictive, especially when it involves creeds and edicts that are very easy to conform to. Many who are trapped by it do not realize they are the seed of the enemy that work against God, spoken of in Genesis 3:15 as “thy seed”.

Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

God through Christ disputed with religious hypocrites and zealots. They declared themselves to be children of God because they were Abraham’s seed by natural birth. The problem with their misguided notion was that they lacked spritual understanding of scripture. They didn’t realize that the seed of Abraham is the prophecy of Christ, the promise seed. Through Him, it was made possible for all mankind to become children of God.

John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

33 They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.

36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

37 I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.

38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.

39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.

41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.

42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.

46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?

47 He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

48 Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?

49 Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.

50 And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.

51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.

52 Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.

53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?

54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:

55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.

56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.

57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

Bruises Between Enemies

So far, we have covered the identity of her seed and they seed in Genesis 3:15. From this point, the content will include the identity of the bruised, one in the head and the other in the heel.

Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

The phrase, “Thou shalt bruise his heel,” is a reference to the Roman way of crucifixion suffered by Christ. The heel of His feet was nailed to a stake and His hands also, above His head.

The “Thou shalt…” statement is prophecy speaking directly to Satan, foretelling that he will be the one to provoke the crucifying of Christ. It was an attempt to defeat the mission of Christ but it turned out to be the fulfillment. Christ spoke about why death was part of His mission using a horticultural metaphor:

John 12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

As did Christ, the Son of God who manifested in the flesh, Satan will also manifest in the form of man. In the state of a man, he will receive a deadly wound in the head.

Psalms 68:21 But God shall wound the head of his enemies, and the hairy scalp of such an one as goeth on still in his trespasses.

Revelation 13:3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.

Revelation 13:12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.

The enmity between God and Satan extend over the ages and involve spiritual war in heaven, war against Christ, war against the Holy Ghost, the metaphoric woman, and war against her seed, the children of God.

Revelation 12:4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

Revelation 12:7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,

Revelation 12:8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.

Revelation 12:13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.

Revelation 12:16 And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.

Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
